Chicago Illinois
Mr. Knowledgeable VI asked:

In your opinion, what do you believe Chicago, Illinois and the Chicagoland Area (the Metropolitan Area) will be like in the year 2012?

It will probably be under water, thanks to global warming

In 2012 it will be pretty much the same as it is now. Maybe more of the ghetto will be knocked down and condos build over it.

Chicago: Smaller population, but more gentrified - the South Loop will expand down to about 35th Street, and parts of Garfield Park will become increasingly safe and pleasant. More skyscrapers, but a limit on the condo buildings because of the housing market downtown.

Suburbs: Huge and expanding - even Naperville / Aurora will be part of the greater Chicagoland area.

Either the city will be more crowded than ever and the pollution will be thick like a grey cloud over the city, or we might be a more green city if people start to make changes. What I am most worried about in the next decade or so is rising unemployment and lack of good jobs for people who don’t want to be a sales or retail person or don’t have ivy league backgrounds. It’s a very divided city of opportunity, with a huge gap between the rich and the poor.
