What kind of weather-appropriate clothing should I bring to Chicago right now?
December 21st, 2009 | by Michael |TwinkaTee asked:
I am from Texas (where it’s still hitting temperatures in the 90s), and I noticed that it is wavering between 50-70 degrees in Chicago. Is that cold to locals or is that still considered short sleeve/short weather?

I am heading to Chicago for vacation on Saturday and I don’t want to be under-dressed in shorts or over-dressed in heavy jackets if that is not the norm.

No the weather lately is pretty chilly (burrr) but this weekend its supposed to be pretty nice…highs in the lower to mid 80s with lows in the lower 70s so I would wear short sleeve during the day and a hoodie or a light jacket will be plenty at night. ENJOY YOUR TRIP!!

Speaking as a local Chicago person….Above 69 or so and sunny is shorts weather.
I have been wearing a light jacket recently on my way to work in the AM, Today it was 46 at 6:30AM. Supposed to go into the high 60’s. Honestly that is rather cool for right now but a long ways from heavy jacket time.

Been cool in the morning and @ night, this week has been beautiful during the day. Other than that, you need to dress in layers and be ready for anything (during August) from 40 degrees and cool/breezy to near 80 degrees sunny & muggy.
The air is already starting to feel/smell like fall, so the cooler weather is probably coming, but it’s still reasonably nice out during the majority of the daylight hours.

No need for a heavy jacket but light weight rain gear may be a good idea. The weather is supposed to warm up a little. Bring shorts and short sleeves but pack a light weight pair of pants. Below is the 10 day forecast:

As a joke, you might bring all your clothes, as our weather changes every 45 minutes. Wh have had snow in September. I would bring a few sweaters or a hoodie, at least. Figure our weather should, lol, stay within 50 to 80 degrees everyday.

It’s freezing here at night; last night into the high 40s, so bring a coat. During the day it’s supposed to be sunny for the next five days in the 70s.
