Is Chicago, Illinois a good place for a young couple to visit?
December 27th, 2008 | by Michael |Dee asked:
We are planning on going the week after thanksgiving; Will it be miserably cold at that time?
We want to stay near by The Magnificent Mile, Millenium park and the Navy Pier, at an inexpensive decent hotel?
Any suggestions?

Chicago is a wonderful place for a young couple to visit! Make sure you see the Museum of Science & Industry. Walk along the shores of lake Michigan & check out the Sched Aquarium. The Field Museum of Natural History & the Lincoln Park Zoo are also favorites of mine. Have a great time in my home town! Lincoln Park Zoo is free.

Metropalis small apartment rentals on state street fantastic New and reasonable. I would suggest VRBO.com cyber rentals because there are allot of forclosures in the area…

Chicago is a fantastic city for a young couple to visit…we have excellent restaurants from high to low price, lots of museums, bars and shopping. I live here and I could still spend the weekend downtown with my wife & son and not run out of things to do.
While here prepare to drop some major money.
Some things to think about:
1. Since you’re driving you need to know that parking is not free in Chicago…even at hotels. To be in the area near all of the attractions you mentioned be prepared to spend $40 a night to park at the hotel or any of the garages near the hotel.
2. Hotels in the area you’re talking about (the Loop, River North, Streeterville) are going to run you around $200-$300 a night. This again does not include parking. Also be prepared to feel obligated to tip doormen & bellman.
3. It will not be miserably cold by miserably cold Chicago standards. However I work at a hotel in the city and we have people here from California who think we’re at the peak of winter right now while some (dumb) Chicagoans are still out there wearing shorts. By this time next month I will definitely have my winter coat on, but the temperature will drop below zero by January/February. I would guess it may hit the 30s around Thanksgiving.
I’m by no means suggesting you can’t afford this trip…
Again I work at a hotel in Chicago and we get a lot of young couples who didn’t budget in an extra $40 a night to park their car and you’re maybe going to have to spend some extra money on winter clothes…I’m just guessing you don’t have a need for winter clothes in Louisiana.

For the hotel, go to expedia or travelocity to see what deals you can get.
Will it be cold? For you and your partner, yes. You are coming from Louisiana. As for temperature, I have no clue. It is Chicago. It isn’t even winter yet and the weather is getting goofy. It is suppose to snow this Monday and by Friday be in the 60’s.
